The Creative Process

I get inspired by looking at other people's work, I love to look at the design elements, and try to figure out how on earth they came up with a certain look. A lot of times I just can't figure it out....what is going on inside the mind of the artist...and a lot of times I just sit back and enjoy the feeling of amazement I get when looking at something truly one of a kind.

Tonight I made these

The piece on the left is kyanite. I bought a a handful when I was in South Dakota over the summer. I LOVE kyanite! It's one of my fav minerals, not just cause it's pretty, but because this:

How awesome is that. I mean come on! The next one is a little something something I made using a technique I learned from Fancifuldevices. ( I adore her stuff). I call it the magical doorway. Is that tacky? Oh well. I love magical doors. " Speak friend and it will open" The item on the right is a little keyhole. Self explanatory. No idea where I picked that up.

But the whole reason for blathering on, is what to to with these three items, and how do I use all three in a necklace design? I have something, a little inkling about what I want to achieve.... But it has not crystallized into a solid idea yet. Any suggestions?

Illuminated Manuscript

Iiiiiii

 

 

Illuminated Manuscripts have always fascinated me. I can envision the Monks laboriously working, taking such care to get all the details just right with just the light from their candles to work by.

I recently finished a class on how to make a mixed media journal from Artful Gathering. http://atozinnia.org/ The class was taught by Luthien Thye, and it was called Beyond Time.

Of course it does not compare to the manuscripts of old, but I had such fun creating it!

The first time I met Stephanie Lee was when I bought her book Semiprecious Salvage. I was so inspired by her work that after my daughter moved out of the apartment off the garage, I had my hubby turn it into a workshop for me! He built me a great work bench to play with metals and jewelry.
By reading Stephanie's blog I was able to take another class from her called Handbook of Elements. It was a class on journal making. Very informative and so interesting! I learned so much!
Then I took another class on Metalsmithing from her as well, Stephanie is very generous with sharing her knowlege and quite gracious and accommodating.

I really enjoyed everything I learned from her, and look forward to more creative endeavors!

Dentist Appt.

I paid $448 for the nitrous oxide high I got at the dentist today. It would have been worth it if she let me take a tank home with me. She didn't.
Two fillings $448. Why didn't I become a dentist? Oh yea, now I remember. You actually have to put your hands in someone else's mouth. Yuck.  Definitely not for me.
I like to work with my hands, but I don't want to put them in your mouth. I would rather create beautiful jewelry or paintings thank you.

So I'm going to continue on this path, in the hopes of it being my bread and butter some day. Other people have done it. So can I. Positive thinking:))
